Coating thickness gauge

 

 

Coating thickness gauge is designed for thickness measurement of ferrous and non-ferrous substrates including paint or metal substrates or plating.With compact and rugged enclosure design, it is easy to use and carry. The thickness gauge is powered by battery and with digital reading.

Coathing thickness gauge is a little complicate to make a proper selection. So it is necessary to know the basic selection rules for coating thickness gauges as below:

 

Codes explaination of coating thickness gauge

F refers to coating thickness gauge using the measuring method of ferrous type magnetic induction,which can be only used for ferrous substrates.

NF refers to coating thickness gauge using the measuring method of non-ferrous type eddy current method,which can be only used for non-ferrous substrates.

F&NF refer to coating thickness gauge with both F and NF method which can measure coating layer thickness of ferrous type with magnetic-induction method and non-ferrous type with eddy current method.

 

Detailed explaination on coating thickness gauge with F type method

F type coating thickness gauge can be used to test coating layer thickness of non-magnetic coating layers while layers are covered on magnetic substrate.
For example, non-magnetic coating thickness of layers including copper, zinc, tin, lead, cadmium, porcelain, powder,aluminum,chrome,enamel, rubber, paint, plastic and anodic-oxide layers;
covered on magnetic substrates including magnetic stainless steel,steel,iron and alloy.
Note: F type coating thickness gauge doesn't care whether the coating layer is conductive or non-conductive,but its care is not magnetic.

Detailed explaination for coating thickness gauge with NF type method
NF type coathing thickness gauge can be used to test coating layer thickness of non-conductive layers which is covered on non-ferrous substrate.
For example, non-conductive layers including rubber, paint, vanish, plastic,enamel and anodic-oxide layers;
convered on non-ferrous substrates including aluminum, brass, zinc, tin and nonmagnetic stainless steel, gold and silver.
Note: The layer for NF type coating thickness gauge must be non-conductive.

 

Thus,when coating thickness gauge is mared with F only or NF only, it means only for F or NF. When a coating thickness gauge is marked with F&NF, it means the coating thickness gauge can be used for F or NF by using F or NF probe.

The F probe is for measuring the thickness of non-magnetic coating layers (aluminum,chrome,copper,ename1,rubber,paint) on magnetic substrate (steel, iron, alloy and magnetic steel) 
The N probes is suitable both for the laboratory and for use in harsh field conditions. This meter measures coating film thickness of all non-magnetic coatings such as varnish, paint, enamel, chrome, copper, zircon… on non-ferrous metal base materials.
Also electrically insulating coatings, such as lacquer, paint and anodising coatings on non-ferrous metals are accurately measured.
